The other person must be able to compromise and permit the other one to make these adjustments so both persons can be content in their new house.
Take your time when going through your possessions. When combining two households, you will have plenty of things for the new (or existing home). You are probably going to have not one but two beds, two couches, and lots of blankets. You'll likely both have kitchen and bathroom stuff.
You won't have to have two of all things in your new place, and that means you are going to need to go through everything to determine what you intend to keep and what you will sell or give away. Some sentimental items should stay but you could wrestle to choose what pieces of furniture you need to keep. You might need to make that call determined by which is in better condition or which one can integrate into your abode better.
Do not be hesitant to look into storage. If you are really struggling to choose what to keep and get rid of, you may want to lease a storage area for the time being. This could also be helpful if you intend on moving into a bigger home in the long term. You might need the additional bed for company when you find yourself ready to buy your next residence. You might want to keep several of your sentimental items in storage until you have your man cave or she shack.
Discuss money as soon as possible. It is advisable to discuss finances before you move in together. You might like to use a joint checking account so you can band together to pay for the bills.
On the other hand, it could be more effective if you split up the bills, having one person take care of the rent, while the other takes care of the electricity, water, as well as other bills. You both have to be satisfied with how you are going to pay for your bills before you take the next step.
